Good Practice - Firestop Marking and Identification

Writer: Kenia MosqueraKenia Mosquera

Although labels are not mandated at firestops by the building codes, fire stopping labels make it easy to keep track of fire stopping data including installation dates, components used, and manufacturers.

Inspections and maintenance performed after the firestop installation are greatly simplified when the original system is already known. Thus, there is no need to research the intended purpose of the past work.

Unfortunately, unless you install firestop systems exactly as their listing details, there can be no guarantee that they will perform as intended.
